About the Forum
How the proposal developed
Work on the British Empire and reparatory justice is already being led by communities and movements across the world. This work has developed through different political histories and often takes place within separate regional or institutional settings.
The proposal for a Global Peoples’ Forum grew from discussions about the infrastructure needed to connect this work, make it more publicly accessible, and support cooperation across borders. It also reflects the need for a process whose direction is shaped by people affected by empire.
Relationship to existing work
The Forum is intended to serve struggles and initiatives that are already underway. Its role will be developed in relation to existing reparations movements, Indigenous processes, community organisations, educational projects, and other forms of anti-imperial work.
Participating organisations will retain authority over their own knowledge and political positions. Involvement in the Forum will not imply endorsement of every position expressed through it.
The consultation process will consider where the Forum could add useful capacity and where existing organisations should continue to lead.
Current responsibility
The development process is currently coordinated by …
The interim coordinators are responsible for organising consultations, preparing working documents, and maintaining the Forum’s public communications. Their role is temporary. The consultation process will consider how future decision-making authority should be organised.
Information about the people currently involved should appear on the Who We Are page.
Funding & Institutional Support
The current development phase is unfunded.
Where funding is received, funders and institutional hosts will not determine the findings of the consultation process or the positions expressed by participants.
Details of funding and institutional support will be updated as the work develops.
